ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth fell to 6-8, 1-4 in the Empire 8 Conference after being defeated by Washington and Jefferson College 2-1 in field hockey. The Presidents improve to 10-5, 4-1 in the E8.
Washington and Jefferson scored the first two goals of the game, one in each half, to take a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the game. The Presidents first goal was scored by senior Laura Peery and assisted by freshman Hannah Lott just 7:50 into the game. Sophomore Julianne Zackey scored what proved to be the game-winner at 41:10. Zackey had a one-on-one opportunity and was able to beat Nazareth goalkeeper
Kelsey Evans (Penfield) to the right corner.
The Golden Flyers answered just over a minute later when
Maria Martini (Clinton) scored off a rebound of a
Julie Paska (South Glens Falls/Fort Edward) shot.
Despite having a 16-6 advantage on shots, and several scoring opportunities in the final minutes of the game, the Flyers were not able to convert . Nazareth also had a slight 9-8 advantage on penalty corners.
Evans finished with two saves while Washington and Jefferson goalkeeper Shelby Colyer finished with 11. Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, October 28th when they travel to Geneseo for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
