ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Elise Maryanopolis and junior Kelly Flanagan each scored a goal in the first half to help lead Nazareth to a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Morrisville in field hockey.

With the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 6-7 overall while the Mustangs drop to 4-12 overall. Nazareth will host Washington & Jefferson Saturday.

The Golden Flyers controlled play through most of the first half, which helped them build a 2-0 lead at halftime. Maryanopolis scored Nazareth's first goal at the 21:03 mark after receiving a crossing pass from freshman Lauren Peczkowski. Flanagan extended the Golden Flyers' lead to two goals with about six minutes remaining in the first half. Flanagan scored her ninth goal of the season when she shot the ball into the side of the goal after Nazareth had put continued offensive pressure on Morrisville. Sophomore Sara Heron was credited with an assist on Flanagan's goal.

Four minutes into the second half, senior Julie Paska tallied her fifth goal of the year and stretched the Golden Flyers' lead to 3-0. Paska scored her goal after the Mustangs' goalie was unable to control a rebound.

Charlotte Brown put Morrisville on the board at the 65:23 mark with an unassisted goal, but Nazareth played strong defensively and did not allow the Mustangs an opportunity to further cut their deficit.

The Golden Flyers held a dominant advantage in shots (29-3) and penalty corners (17-2). Twenty of Nazareth's shots and 11 of its penalty corners came in the first half.

Sophomore Kelsey Evans was credited with one save while the Mustangs' goalkeeper, Sarah Snow, recorded 15 saves.

The Golden Flyers host Washington & Jefferson Saturday in their final home game of the season, and need a victory to stay in contention for an Empire 8 playoff berth.
