Nazareth falls to St. Lawrence, 3-0

Evans records eight saves for Flyers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting St. Lawrence scored three second half goals to defeat Nazareth 3-0 in a non-conference field hockey game. The Saints scored two goals in the final six minutes to secure their victory.

With the loss, the Golden Flyers drop to 5-7 overall while St. Lawrence improves to 8-4 overall.

After a scoreless first half, the Saints took a 1-0 lead at the 45:37 mark when Brooke Maloney sent a pass to Michelle Verrochi, who found the back of the goal.

Nazareth battled for the equalizer, but the Saints' strong defenders blocked many of the Golden Flyers' attempts. Seven different Nazareth players recorded shots, including two from both senior Julie Paska and freshman Lindsey Wagner.

Verrochi struck again for the Saints with an unassisted goal with 5:06 remaining in the game to seal the victory. Rachel Burke added a third goal for St. Lawrence four minutes later to extend the final score of the hard-fought game to 3-0.

Sophomore Kelsey Evans finished with eight saves for the Golden Flyers while Emilie Lannamann made seven saves to record the shutout.

The Saints finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots and an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Nazareth hosts Morrisville in a non-conference game in its next contest Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
