GENEVA, N.Y.  -- William Smith and visiting Nazareth College played to a 1-1 tie in women's soccer after two scoreless, 10-minute overtime periods Thursday.  The Golden Flyers move to 9-4-1 while the Herons, ranked #6 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) weekly poll, are 9-1-3.

The two teams were tied 0-0 until mid-way through the second half.  Empire 8 Athlete of the Week, senior Kelly Finn (Homer/Cortland) was able to head the ball over goalkeeper Amanda Davis on a scramble play at 75:08.  The Herons answered six minutes later when Megan Stevens connected on a crossing pass from Brelynn Nasypany to tie the score 1-1.

Nazareth's Hillary Simon (Homer) made two crucial saves in the first overtime period when William Smith's Kate Redmond had two scoring opportunities.  Redmond broke loose for a one-on-one shot which Simon saved and Redmond had another chance to score off her rebound but Simon was able to make the ensuing save from the ground.

With less than two minutes to play in overtime, the Golden Flyers were awarded a penalty kick after Finn was fouled in the penalty area. Senior Rachel Cushman (Irondequoit) took the shot and Davis made the decisive save to preserve the tie for the Herons. Cushman had another opportunity on the rebound, but again, Davis was there to collect the attempt.

William Smith out shot Nazareth 24-12, and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.  Davis finished with eight saves for the Herons, while Simon finished with a season-high 11 saves for Nazareth.

Nazareth has the weekend off and returns home Wednesday, October 22nd to host the University of Rochester at 4 p.m.
