HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Second-seeded RIT swept all three doubles matches against third-seeded Nazareth in women's tennis Saturday as the Tigers defeated the Golden Flyers, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament at Stevens Institute of Technology.
RIT improved to 9-3 and will take on top-seeded Ithaca Sunday at 12 p.m. for the conference title. Ithaca defeated Stevens, 5-1, in the other semifinal match.
RIT's first doubles tandem of Amanda Berg and Brianne Francisco defeated Nazareth's top duo of
Rachel Leonard and
Jackeline Martinez, 8-2. The closest match was at third doubles where RIT's Joanna Cash and Sara Paduano defeated Nazareth's
Elizabeth Way and
Sherrita Wilkins, 8-6. RIT also secured a point at second doubles with Kseniya Klyachko and Alexis Stanley defeating
Danielle Carinci and
Jessica Faber of Nazareth, 8-3.
Leonard also lost to Berg at first singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Paduano defeated Nazareth's
Kelly Noble 6-2, 6-2 for RIT's fifth point.
