EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- East Stroudsburg held on to defeat visiting Nazareth Friday in men's volleyball in five games 30-24, 28-30, 30-21, 21-30, 15-12. Senior Tom Maving recorded a team-high 18 kills and junior Joe Petzoldt added 12 kills for the Golden Flyers.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 2-2 overall. East Stroudsburg begins its season with a 1-0 record following the victory.
In addition to the kills from Maving and Petzoldt, senior Kellen Gambeski added seven kills and junior Kelvin Rolle contributed five kills. Setter Frank Leahy recorded 44 assists for Nazareth while junior Chris DeHority recorded a match-high 16 digs.
The Warriors were led by Chris Holden who had a match-high 21 kills. Jesse Landis and Michael Semeraro contributed 11 and 10 kills respectively to East Stroudsburg's offensive attack. Setter John Post recorded a match-high 52 assists for the Warriors. R.J. Roth added 15 digs.
Nazareth is in Hoboken, N.J. this weekend to compete in the Stevens Invitational. The Golden Flyers play Baruch Saturday at 2 p.m. and Stevens at 8 p.m. Play continues Sunday.
