CUMULATIVE STATSROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth scored one goal in each half to defeat visiting Alfred 2-0 in an Empire 8 Conference game. Junior Christopher Lofgren scored Nazareth's first goal just 3:09 into the game to put the Golden Flyers in control early.
Nazareth improves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8 with the victory. Alfred falls to 1-7-1 overall and 0-2 in the Conference after the loss.
Nazareth junior Justin Stevens opened the second half with a quick goal as he scored 53 seconds into the half to give the Golden Flyers the two-goal lead. Senior Zach Hill was credited with an assist on the play as he was able to advance the ball to Stevens.
Sophomore Trey Barresi made three saves for the Golden Flyers to record his fifth shutout of the season.
Nazareth held a 13-8 advantage in shots and outshot the Saxons 10-0 in the second half. Alfred had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, but Nazareth's stingy defense prevented the Saxons from scoring each time.
The Golden Flyers travel to Stevens and Utica for two conference games Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th in their next matches. Nazareth then plays a non-conference game against SUNYIT on October 9th before returning home for a conference game against Ithaca October 13th.
