PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Goals are becoming difficult to come by for the Nazareth men's soccer team as the Golden Flyers were shut out for the third straight time and for the fifth time overall this season as they lost their Empire 8 Conference opener, 4-0, at St. John Fisher.
Nazareth, with just five goals in eight games, fell to 2-4-2 overall while Fisher upped its record to 6-2.
Fisher sophomore Luke Lennox scored three goals to impove his conference-leading total to seven. He gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage with an unassisted at the 8:40 mark of the first half.
Nazareth's best scoring chance came in the 26th minute when a shot by sophomore midfielder Philip Holmberg hit the goal post.
Fisher led 1-0 at halftime, then broke the game open in the second half as Lennox scored again the 55th minute and yet again in the 78th minute. In between, the Cardinals got a goal from Michael Rooney in the 75th minute off an assist from Cris Martinez.
Nazareth had 15 shots overall, but seven were saved by Fisher goalie Adam Durst, who gained credit for the shutout. Nazareth's Trey Barresi had five saves.
Nazareth's next game is a non-conference match at Roberts Wesleyan Wednesday at 7 p.m.
