CLINTON, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth recorded its third shutout in four men's soccer games Tuesday as the Golden Flyers battled to a 0-0 non-conference tie at Hamilton.
Nazareth is now 2-1-1 overall. Hamilton is 1-0-2.
The game was delayed for more than 30 minutes following a lightning strike, yet neither team could score through 90 minutes of regulation time and two 10-minute overtimes. It also was the third shutout of the seasons for the Continentals, who haven't allowed a goal in three games this season.
"We had some pretty good chances, but I thought they had the better of it toward the end of regulation," said Nazareth Coach Danny Gilbertson. "We had to defend quite a bit."
Sophomore Trey Barresi (Lansing HS/Lansing, NY) went the distance in goal for Nazareth and recorded his third shutout with a career-best nine saves. Nazareth's best scoring chance came in the second half when sophomore midfielder Philip Holmberg (Malmo, Sweden) drilled a free kick off the crossbar.
Nazareth plays two more non-conference road games this weekend -- Friday at Skidmore at 7 p.m. and Saturday at Union at 6 p.m.
