ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- FDU-Florham's Christina Fabian scored the game-winning goal midway through the first overtime period Wednesday to lift the visiting Devils to a 3-2 victory over Nazareth in the first round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament for field hockey.

Fabian's goal improved the Devils' record to 15-7 and launched them into the tournament semifinals on Saturday. FDU-Florham will play sixth-seeded Stevens, a 1-0 winner over Washington & Jefferson, in its next game. Nazareth finished at 14-6 overall.

Fabian's goal came on a tip in following a penalty corner by FDU's Krystle Birmingham. Jess Van Meter took the initial shot and Fabian deflected in past Nazareth goalie Kelsey Evans for her second goal of the game and 19th of the season.

Nazareth forced overtime by rallying form a 1-0 halftime deficit behind goals from Megan Grimmer and Keri Ross.

FDU-Florham had a 9-1 shooting advantage in the first half and scored the only goal of the first 30 minutes when Birmingham scored unassisted at the 4:30 mark. Nazareth got on the board early in the second half when Grimmer blasted a shot into the goal following a penalty corner by Jodee Magistro.

The Devils regained the lead on a goal by Fabian at 48:52, but Nazareth tied it again on a goal by Ross that was assisted by Marissa Rys.

FDU-Florham had a 15-13 overall edge in shots, although Nazareth had a 14-11 advantage in penalty corners. Evans made eight saves for Nazareth; Jamie SanFilippo made six saves for FDU-Florham.

In addition, the Golden Flyers were recognized as one of a handful of schools with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Kelly Miranda, who helped spearhead Nazareth's improbable field hockey rise from worst to first in 2007, has been recognized as Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year. In voting conducted among the league's seven head coaches, Miranda was also named to the first team along with senior defender Megan Grimmer. Two other Nazareth players, sophomore forward Kelly Flanagan and junior midfielder Julie Paska, were named to the second team.
