ALL-REGION TEAMS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth junior outside hitter Laura Persico and sophomore setter Kate Zwickl were among the players honored on the 2007 New York Region all-star team for women's volleyball.

The 12-member all-star teams were selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

In addition to Persico and Zwickl, senior right side hitter Elizabeth Tregan was chosen honorable mention.

Persico, of Ravena, N.Y. and a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, helped the Golden Flyers gain their second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament as she led the team in kills with 508 (3.97 per game) and posted a hitting percentage of .240. A first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star, Persico also had 36 service aces, 262 digs and 21 blocks.

Zwickl, of Chester, N.Y. and a graduate of Warwick High School, amassed 1,548 assists (11.64 per game) for the second highest single-season total in Nazareth history. She also was a first-team E8 Conference all-star who contributed 94 kills, 69 service aces, 222 digs and 56 blocks.

Tregan, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and a graduate of Plattsburgh High School, produced strong all-around numbers for Nazareth in 2007. She was second on the team in kills with 446 (3.48 per game) to go with 56 service aces, 187 digs and 50 blocks.

Persico also was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a third-team selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. Persico was a third-team selection for District 1, which encompasses all of New York State and parts of New England. She carries a 3.72 grade-point average as a Communication and Rhetoric major.
