ALL-AMERICAN TEAMS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth junior outside hitter Laura Persico and sophomore setter Kate Zwickl were named to the 2007 honorable mention All-American team for women's volleyball. The All-American teams were selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Persico, of Ravena, N.Y. and a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, helped the Golden Flyers gain their second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament as she led the Golden Flyers in kills with 555 (4.02 per game) and posted a hitting percentage of .241. Persico helped lead Nazareth to the regional finals in the NCAA tournament as she recorded 32 kills in victories over Montclair State and Cortland. She was also third on the team in digs with 298 (2.16 per game) and contributed 38 aces and 21 blocks.
Zwickl, of Chester, N.Y. and a graduate of Warwick High School, also helped the Golden Flyers to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament as she amassed 1,660 assists (11.61 per game) for the second highest single-season total in Nazareth history. She recorded 80 assists in the Golden Flyers' victories over Montclair and Cortland. Zwickl also added 96 kills, 70 aces, 245 digs and was third on the team with 58 blocks.
Persico and Zwickl each earned first-team all-conference honors from the Empire 8 and were named to the 2007 New York Region all-star team.
