ALL-REGION TEAMS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth seniors Kelly Miranda and Megan Grimmer were among the players honored on the 2007 North Atlantic Region all-star team for field hockey. Miranda received first-team honors while Grimmer was named to the second-team.
The 12 all-star teams were chosed by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and sponsored by Longstreth.
Miranda, a native of Ossining, N.Y. and a graduate of Ossining High School, helped Nazareth win its first-ever Empire 8 Conference championship with wins over Ithaca and top-seed Washington & Jefferson. Miranda had two goals in the second half of the Golden Flyers' 3-2 win over Ithaca in the conference semifinals. She was named Most Valuable Player of the Empire 8 Tournament as well as Empire 8 Player of the Year. Miranda was Nazareth's second leading scorer for 2007 as she recorded 31 points on 11 goals and nine assists.
Grimmer, a native of New Hartford, N.Y. and a graduate of New Hartford High School, also helped Nazareth to its improbable climb to the top of the Empire 8. She continually frustrated opposing offenses with strong play on the Golden Flyers' defense. Grimmer scored one goal in Nazareth's 3-2 overtime loss to FDU-Florham in the ECAC Tournament. She also recorded three assists over the season and earned Empire 8 first-team all-star honors.
Miranda and Grimmer helped Nazareth to its best field hockey season ever, which included a 14-6 record.
