CUMULATIVE STATSHOBOKEN, N.J. -- Top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology eliminated Nazareth from the NCAA Division III Tournament in women's volleyball Saturday as the host Ducks defeated the Golden Flyers in three games, 30-24, 30-27, 30-27.
The victory, Stevens' third of the season over the Golden Flyers, enabled the Ducks to capture the New York Region title and advanced Stevens to next weekend's Final 8 in Illinois. The Ducks improved to 36-4 overall. Nazareth, which defeated Montclair State and Cortland in the first two rounds of the tournament, finished the season at 28-12.
Junior Laura Persico (Ravena, NY) had 15 kiills and 10 digs and sophomore libero Mallorie Clary (Baltimore, MD) had a season-high 25 digs.
After dropping the first two games, Nazareth led for most of game three, before Stevens rallied to close out the match. Nazareth led 26-23 before Stevens scored five straight points to all but clinch the win.
Nazareth also got 10 kills in 19 attempts from sophomore Katelynn Reed (Horseheads, NY) and 32 assists from sophomore setter Kate Zwickl (Chester, NY). Senior Elizabeth Tregan (Plattsburgh, NY) contributed five kills and eight digs in her final college match.
