ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A goal by Nazareth junior Justin Stevens (Canisius HS/Derby, NY) in the 83rd minute Saturday was the difference as the host Golden Flyers defeated Elmira in men's soccer, 1-0.

The victory evened Nazareth's record at 6-6-2 and improved the Golden Flyers to 2-3 in the Empire 8 Conference. Elmira slipped to 4-9-1 overall and 1-4 in the E8. Nazareth has another key E8 game Sunday at home vs. Ithaca at 1 p.m.

Nazareth had an 18-12 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, but the game remained scoreless until late in the second half when Stevens broke through the Elmira defense after accepting a pass from Christopher Lofgren and scored his third goal of the season.

The Golden Flyers were able to keep Elmira off the scoreboard the rest of the way, thanks in part to sophomore goalie Trey Barresi (Lansing HS/Lansing, NY), who made eight saves, including a couple from point-blank range, to secure his sixth shutout of the season.

After Sunday's final regular-season home game, Nazareth has two road games left -- Wednesday at Hobart at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at RIT at 12 p.m.
