CUMULATIVE STATSROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior Elizabeth Tregan had 14 kills and sophomore Carra Vanderstyne added 13 Tuesday as host Nazareth rallied from an early deficit to defeat Geneseo in women's volleyball. Nazareth won in four games by scores of 26-30, 30-21, 30-20, 30-25.
The Golden Flyers, playing their first match since Sept. 1, improved to 4-1 overall. Geneseo is 4-6.
Vanderstyne recorded six of her kills in the third game as Nazareth broke the 1-1 deadlock. She also finished with a match-best 17 digs. Tregan contributed three service aces and three assisted blocks.
Other noteworthy numbers included 45 assists and 10 digs for sophomore setter Kate Zwickl (Chester, NY), 11 kills and seven digs for junior outside hitter Laura Persico (Ravena, NY), four aces and 14 digs for sophomore libero Mallorie Clary and six aces and seven digs for sophomore Natasha Villane (Canandaigua, NY).
Senior Courtney Nash led Geneseo with nine kills and six blocks. Maddy Maler had 21 assists and 11 digs and Jessi Laemlein had nine kills and 11 digs.
Nazareth returns to action this weekend at the RIT Invitational. The Golden Flyers open pool play Friday with matches against Clarkson and Cortland at 6 and 8 p.m. respectively.
