Nazareth loses at Rensselaer, 10-6

TROY, N.Y. -- Host Rensselaer outscored Nazareth 7-3 in the second half Saturday to break away from a 3-3 halftime tie for a 10-6 women's lacrosse victory over the 20th-ranked Golden Flyers in a non-conference game at Renwyck Field.

The loss dropped Nazareth to 2-2 overall. Rensselaer improved to 5-1 with its first win in nine tries against the Golden Flyers.

Rensselaer led 3-1 late in the first half before Nazareth rallied to tie the score before halftime, 3-3, on goals by Caity Richardson and Nora Davis.

Rensselaer's Sam Fennessey opened the second-half scoring with her third goal of the game, but Nazareth tied the score moments later on an unassisted score from freshman Michelle Cook. The Red Hawks then broke the game open by scoring six of the next seven goals, including three by junior Kerri Clark and two from freshman Stephanie Caouette.

Rensselaer held a 26-17 advantage in shots and took 12 of 17 draw controls. Nazareth goalie Maria Fusco made 10 saves. Ariana Hood made four saves for Rensselaer.

Nazareth opens its Empire next weekend at RIT Saturday at 1 p.m. and at Alfred Sunday at 1 p.m.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Four Nazareth women's lacrosse players have been named to the Empire Region all-star team that has been released by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Senior midfielder #Caity Richardson# was a first-team selection, while sophomore attacker #Nora Davis#, junior goalie #Maria Fusco# and junior defender #Maggie Mullin# each made the second team.
