CUMULATIVE STATSROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Ali Sharpe (Aquinas Institute/Rochester, NY) scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for Nazareth Tuesday as the host Golden Flyers defeated Buffalo State in a non-conference game for women's basketball, 66-49.
The victory evened Nazareth's overall record at 2-2, while Buffalo State slipped to 1-3.
Sharpe made four of six shots from the field and 8 of 10 free throws to lead the way for the Golden Flyers. Sophomore guard Kylie Bartlett (Solvay HS/Solvay, NY) added 11 points and sophomore Kelly Dunne (Northport HS/East Northport, NY) had 10.
The game was tied at 11-11 early in the first half, then a basket by Sharpe triggered a 19-8 scoring run that ended on a basket by Bartlett and the Golden Flyers on top 32-19 with four minutes to play in the half.
Buffalo State scored the last five points of the half to close within 32-24. Junior Shareese Hamer (Strong Vincent HS/Erie, PA) scored five of her game-high 19 points for the Bengals in that stretch.
Nazareth stayed ahead in the second half and regained its double-digit advantage on Bartlett's three-pointer with 12:24 to go.
Nazareth had by far its best shooting night of the early season, making 25 of 46 shots from the field (54.3 percent), including 6 for 18 from three-point range.
The Golden Flyers return to action Saturday for a non-league game at Cortland at 7 p.m.
