CUMULATIVE STATSROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting St. Lawrence had three players reach double figures in points Sunday and forced Nazareth to commit 30 turnovers as the Saints defeated the Golden Flyers in women's basketball, 64-34.
St. Lawrence improved its overall record to 3-1, while Nazareth fell to 1-2.
The score was tied 6-6 early in the first half before the Saints seized control by using a 28-9 scoring run to close out the half with a 34-15 lead. Senior guard Jamie Wolff (Nardin Academy/Buffalo, NY) scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the first half and junior Katie Palmer added 10 of her 14 points before the break.
The Saints' defense, meanwhile, was tenacious throughout. They limited Nazareth to just six baskets in the first half and seven in the second. The Golden Flyers committed 16 turnovers in the first half and 14 more in the second. The Saints also made 19 steals, including five each for Wolff and Palmer.
Sophomore guard Kelly Dunne (Northport HS/East Northport, NY) was Nazareth's high scorer with eight points. Senior Ali Sharpe (Aquinas Institute/Rochester, NY) and sophomore Rachel Pirozzolo (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira, NY) each scored six points. Freshman Hillary Simon (Homer HS/Homer, NY) was the game-high rebounder with 10.
