CUMULATIVE STATSHAMBURG, N.Y. -- Sophomore guard Rachel Pirozzolo scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half Saturday as visiting Nazareth pulled away for a 66-43 women's basketball victory over Hilbert in a non-conference game.
The win was Nazareth's first under the direction of first-year head coach Devin Gotham as the Golden Flyers improved to 1-1 overall. Hilbert is 0-4. Nazareth led 31-29 at halftime, but broke open the close game in the second half by outscoring the Hawks 35-14. The Golden Flyers opened the half with a 12-2 scoring run to increase their lead to double digits, 43-31. Pirozzolo started the run with a basket. Kelly Dunne, Lizzie Barlow, Ali Sharpe and Breanna Smith also scored and Kylie Bartlett added two free throws.
Nazareth's lead continued to grow and swelled as large as 25 points, 66-41, on a basket by Pirozzolo with 2:41 left.
Pirozzolo's career-high 16 points came on 6-for-12 shooting with one three-pointer. She also had four assists and four steals. Dunne added 14 points and five assists and Sharpe finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
