SANFORD, Fla. -- Nazareth scored four times in both the first and third quarters Tuesday as the 17th-ranked Golden Flyers prevailed against eighth-ranked Wesleyan in a non-conference men's lacrosse game, 8-5, at Sylvan Lake Park.

Nazareth led 4-3 at halftime and 8-4 after three quarters to improve its overall record to 3-1. Wesleyan dropped to 1-2 overall.

Freshman midfielder Corey Remoli (Asbury, N.J.) scored three goals and added two assists and senior midfielder Aaron Civalier (Penfield HS/Rochester, NY) added two goals and two assists to lead the Golden Flyers' offensively. Sophomore goalie Todd Dermody (Selden, NY) made 13 saves.

Wesleyan scored the game's first goal as Chris Jasinski converted a pass from Jason Ben-Eliyahu early in the first quarter. Nazareth answered with four straight goals -- two by Remoli, one by Civalier and one by senior Matt Aloi (DeWitt, NY) -- to take the lead for good.

Wesleyan closed to within 4-3 on a pair of goals by Ross Follansbee. The first came with 1:28 left in the first quarter, the second with 1:49 left in the second.

Nazareth opened the second half with a fast-break goal by Erinn O'Hara (Camillus, NY) off an assist from freshman Doug Milano-Johnson (Pittsford, NY). After Lonny Blumenthal scored for Wesleyan to trim Nazareth's lead to 5-4, the Golden Flyers answered with three straight goals, including Remoli's third goal of the game just before time expired ending the third quarter. Civaler also scored as did freshman attackman Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar (Orchard Park, NY).

Blumenthal scored again for Wesleyan the fourth quarter, but the Golden Flyers were able to control possession time in the fourth quarter despite being outshot 10-3 over the final 15 minutes.

Nazareth's win avenged a 9-6 loss to the Cardinals in last season's NCAA Division III quarterfinals. Nazareth had a 31-28 advantage in ground balls, led by five from senior defenseman John Hanss (Irondequoit HS/Rochester, NY). Junior Chris Law (Catonsville, MD) and freshman Kyle McLean (Bayport, NY) each won four face-offs.

Nazareth plays again Thursday at Vero Beach High School against seventh-ranked Western New England at 7 p.m.
