CUMULATIVE STATSCANTON, N.Y. -- Joss-Elyse Smith scored two goals to lead the St. Lawrence field hockey team to a 3-1 non-conference win over visiting Nazareth Saturday afternoon. The loss was Nazareth's first of the season.
The Saints (3-0) got on the board in the 26th minute on a goal by Michelle Verrochi and assisted by Julie Kiernan.
St. Lawrence extended its lead to 2-0 when Smith scored the first of her two goals in the 57th minute. She struck again three minutes later to put the Saints ahead 3-0.
Nazareth's Kelly Flanagan (pictured, Fairport, N.Y.) ended St. Lawrence's hopes for a shutout with an unassisted goal at 68:13.
Nazareth goalkeeper Katie May (Rochester, N.Y.) finished the game with seven saves while St. Lawrence's Lindsey Taylor stopped four shots.
St. Lawrence outshot the Golden Flyers 32-12 and also held the advantage in penalty corners 6-3.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 12th with a non-conference game at the University of Rochester. Game time starts at 7 p.m.
